The Southern California Library is a community library and cultural/educational institution in
South Los Angeles. Founded over 40 years ago, the Library has one of the largest archives of L.A. community
history in the world. We use our collections, the arts, and cultural programs to engage
people across generations in sharing the lessons of this history, so that we can open up new dialogues and
possibilities for change in our communities. Community residents, academic scholars, teachers, students,
and others from across the city and the state come to the Library to research local neighborhoods and to
understand the history of Los Angeles from the perspective of day-to-day people working to create change.
