The Library holds collections that span the breadth of social and political movements
in Los Angeles--from labor, civil rights, education, and housing, to immigration, war and peace,
and civil liberties. These collections include over 400 manuscript collections, as well as books, periodicals,
subject files, pamphlets, posters, photographs, films, audiotapes, and more.

The Library holds the papers of Charlotta Bass, a a powerful journalist, civil rights leader, and far-sighted
political candidate who ran for vice president of the United States on the Progressive Party ticket in 1952.
