Independent Progressive Party (IPP) of California members submitting petitions with the signatures needed for the party to participate in California's primary election on June 1, 1948.

Charlotta Bass, publisher of the California Eagle, is second from right. The man standing next to Bass on the right is Reuben Borough, who unsuccessfully ran for California Treasurer and U.S. Senate on the IPP ticket. Bass, Borough, and the woman next to them are wearing buttons saying "Wallace in '48," proclaiming their support for Henry Wallace, the Progressive Party candidate for President. The Independent Progressive Party was established in California in 1948 to support Wallace's candidacy. According to Bass's memoirs, the IPP needed to obtain 275,970 valid signatures by Feb. 26, 1948, to qualify for the 1948 elections.
