Ethel and Julius Rosenberg Defense
Committees Collection, 1952-1979. Papers generated by several Los Angeles area committees that campaigned to stop the execution of the Rosenbergs (which occurred in June of 1953) and then tried to obtain the release of Morton Sobell, who had been convicted along with the Rosenbergs of conspiracy to commit espionage against the United States; also literature from the National Committee to Secure Justice in the Rosenberg Case, organized by the Rosenberg children, Michael and Robert Meeropol, twenty years after the execution of their parents. William A. Seligman Papers (United Shoeworkers of American-Los Angeles), 1928-1941. The collection documents the Southern California Waiters Alliance of which Charles Stirner served as Secretary-Treasurer in the 1950s and early 1960s. It also includes materials from the Joint Executive Board of the Culinary Workers and Bartenders International of which the Waiters Alliance was a part, and a few personal papers. Includes extensive materials relating to the termination of the Trusteeship imposed by the International on the Waiters Alliance in 1961. Robert Shaw Papers, 1941-1971. This collection consist primarily of scripts written by members of the Hollywood Writers Mobilization during World War II, and political speeches and spots written for the California Democratic Party in 1946 and for Henry Wallace's 1948 Progressive Party presidential campaign. Kathleen Sheldon and Stephen Tarzynski Papers, 1973-1999. The papers of husband and wife Stephen (Steve) Tarzynski and Kathleen (Kathie) Sheldon document their involvement with and the activities of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and its predecessor the New American Movement (NAM). The collection includes materials on the Los Angeles Socialist Community School and the Socialist Scholars Conference. Steve Tarzynski also worked as a pediatrician and was actively involved in health care rights issues. South Central Los Angeles Documentation Project Collection, 1930s-1990s. Files, including personal recollections, high school yearbooks, church bulletins, photographs, clippings and organizational literature documenting churches, groups, schools, and neighborhoods in South Central Los Angeles. The collection is the creation of a community outreach project undertaken by the Library with the support of the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation. Charles Stirner Papers (Southern California Waiters Alliance), 1936-1988. Standard Coil Organizing Campaign Collection (UE vs IUE-CIO), 1949-1954, n.d. Flyers and other materials pertaining to the fight between three unions, the United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America (UE), the International Union of Electrical, Radio, & Machine Workers, Congress of Industrial Organizations (IUE-CIO), and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), over the right to represent Standard Coil workers in 1951-1953. Also a few pamphlets published by the UE and flyers on other concerns of the day. Tom Mooney Molders' Defense Committee Collection, 1917-1942. This collection consists primarily of pamphlets, posters and other printed materials created or collected by the Tom Mooney Molders Defense Committee, in their work to free Tom Mooney, a labor activist wrongfully convicted of bombing the 1916 Preparedness Day Parade in San Francisco. There are also a small number of documents pertaining to Tom Mooney and his estate. Urban Policy Research Institute Collection, 1970-1985. Extensive records of a research organization founded by Mae Churchill primarily for the purpose of monitoring the activities of national and local law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department, to make them more responsive to society and to expose unlawful surveillance and other abuses of police power. Woman's Building Collection, 1970s-1980s. Newsletters, reports, and flyers from a feminist cultural and political organization that served as a center for art exhibitions, performances, and meetings among feminist women in Los Angeles. Women for Legislative Action Collection, 1952-1977. Extensive administrative and program records of a Los Angeles women's organization involved in research, education, and advocacy around a wide spectrum of political and social issues, locally and nationally. |
