Legal papers, minutes of meetings, and reports of an organization that was formed to monitor and influence the implementation of the court-ordered desegregation of the Los Angeles public schools. Interfaith Center to Reverse the Arms Race Collection, 1980s. Records of a local organization of concerned clergy and lay people who organized events and campaigns to protest the international arms race. International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) Project Files, 1914-1993. Research files primarily consisting of photocopies of primary and secondary sources compiled by Mary Tyler during her research for the Library's conference on the Los Angeles ILGWU and subsequent book, co-authored by John Laslett. Also contains tapes and transcripts of oral history interviews by Dorothy Doyle and papers prepared for the conference. International Typographical Union Collection, 1903-1970s. Correspondence minutes, attendance records, and bulletins of the Los Angeles Union. International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Los Angeles Collection, 1930s-1988. Correspondence, minutes, organizing reports, and other materials documenting the internal work of the union and the relation between the Los Angeles locals and the international union. J.P. Stevens Boycott Committee (Los Angeles) Collection, 1970s. Papers of a local support committee for the Textile Workers Union of America's national boycott of products made by J.P. Stevens Company because of the company's longtime resistance to the unionization of its workers. Celeste Strack Kaplan Papers, 1931-1966. Papers of a 1930s student radical and Communist Party member. The collection covers her activities from her undergraduate debating career through her resignation from the party in 1958. Anne and Michael Kaufman Papers, 1959-1990. These papers document the Los Angeles based political activities of former husband and wife (Michael and Anne Kaufman), including their joint involvement with W.E.B. DuBois Clubs of America (1961-1966) and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees [AFSCME, AFL-CIO] (1969 to 1980). Anne Kaufman was later active in the National Rainbow Coalition and 24th Congressional District (1987-1990). Only a small amount of personal information is found in the collection. Robert W. Kenny Collection, 1901-1976. Papers of the former California state attorney general, civil liberties lawyer, and first president of the Southern California Library for Social Studies and Research, relating to Kenny's family and personal reminiscences, several of his races for political office, and his representation of labor leader Luisa Morena, who was pressured into leaving the country after the federal government threatened to deport her for her refusal to cooperate with HUAC. Liberty Hill Foundation Collection, 1976-1988. Administrative records and grant files from a progressive Los Angeles foundation focused on grant-giving to grassroots organizations working for economic, environmental, and racial justice. Los Angeles Committee for the Protection of the Foreign Born Collection, 1950s-1960s. Papers, including case records, of an organization dedicated to defending the rights of immigrants to Los Angeles, especially in situations where they were threatened with deportation because of their political or union activities. Los Angeles Teachers Union Collection, 1925-1982. Materials pertaining to the Los Angeles Federation of Teachers and its activities primarily during the 1940s and 1950s. |
